2011 Year in Review

2011 Year in Review

In 2011 God moved in great ways at Grace Chapel. We continued to see the mission of God fulfilled as we shared the good news of Jesus Christ, equipped people in their faith journey, and experienced life to the fullest in the freedom of God’s grace. Here are just a few of the highlights:

Grace Chapel’s Church Plant Turns 1!
In the fall of 2011, Mercy Road, our church plant came of age and turned one. In 2009 God called our then youth pastor, Mike Gorr, to Redford, MI to plant a church. God has blessed Mercy Road as he is using her to reach people who are far from God. Nearly 40% of the folks that attend are new Christians or have not yet begun their relationship with Jesus. God is on the move!

Appalachia Impact 2K11
This past summer nearly 60 people from Grace Chapel were sent to Frenchburg, KY to step out in faith and help to transform a community. We were able to renovate three homes, clean up a resale shop, and carry out a week long educational camp. One of the most exciting things about this year’s trip is that people from 4 years old to more than 60 years old! It was an incredible week. God is on the move!

The Two Great Events
There are two annual highlight events at Grace Chapel; the Seder Dinner and the Fall Festival. On the Thursday before Easter we gather as a community to celebrate the Seder and Tenebrae. The evening begins by celebrating the Jewish Seder feast and culminates with a Tenebrae service where we prepare for ourselves for Good Friday and the coming resurrection. There may not be a more significant gathering than this throughout the year.

For the Fall Festival the worship center is transformed into a midway complete with games, food, a chili cook-off, and goldfish races. There is nothing quite like a night where kids get tons of candy, two pastors get pied, and the Grace Chapel Chili trophy is awarded to the best chili chef. The Fall Festival brings us together to enjoy life in the grace of God. God is on the move!

The Food Pantry
Each day at Grace Chapel people walk through our doors with broken hearts and heartbreaking stories. They arrive at our door looking for grace and mercy. The food pantry and the warm relationships that are fostered with the staff provide more than just food but also much needed relationship. In January 2011 we served one person and by December we were caring for 30! One of the highlights for our food pantry was partnering with Family Video of Farmington to serve 21 turkeys near Thanksgiving and 24 complete turkey dinners for Christmas. We were also able to give thousands of dollars in food, hygiene products, and gift certificates. God is on the move!
