Appalachia 2010 Update #5

We are finishing our mission trip to Appalachia and return home tomorrow (Saturday). It does not seem possible! All three rehab jobs were completed in the midst of a driving rain. Tonight was capped off with a cookout at Project Worth where most of the families (the students and homeowners we served) came and joined us for dinner. The Grace Chapel and Fellowship EPC guys…

Appalachia 2010 Update #4

Today was, in a word, “HOT”. The weather index was well over 100 and real temps in the 100s. In spite of the heat God was at work. The three work crews expect to be done by lunch tomorrow. This is truly amazing. Last year on Thursday night we were crying out to God and begging for him to expand our time. This year we were rejoicing together over all that God…

Appalachia 2010 Update #3

Today was another good day in Appalachia. The heat index was well over 100 degrees which made the working conditions very difficult. Tuesday was another good day in Appalachia! The house that we are siding is almost done. There’s a small chance that it could be finished today. The deck crew has the structure completely built for the deck and will begin decking and building the roof structure today. They should be done tomorrow. The drywall team is working hard but is slowed by the difficulty of…

Appalachia 2010 Update #1

Today we hit the work sites for the first time and accomplished more than we could have ever hoped. The Deck Crew tore down a covered porch, cleaned up, and built the foundation for the new porch and arrived home by 2:30! Amazing! This team was led by Chris Wolschon and Jeff Johnson. For me the best part of this crew is that they invited Ethan in and he worked all day! He…

These are the issues surrounding the issue of “helicopter parenting”.  There is a new book out that has been looking at these issues in depth. Check out this interview with the author and let me know what you…
